Spartanburg, S.C. – On the heels of a 1-0 victory over Gardner-Webb last weekend, the USC Upstate women's soccer team looks to continue its winning ways Friday at 4 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Charleston, S.C., to battle Charleston Southern in the final non-conference game of the season.
Upstate freshman midfielder Rachel Baylor (Greensboro, N.C) netted her first career goal to lead the Spartans to their first-ever win over Gardner-Webb. Senior keeper Sarah Plantz tallied six saves and recorded her third shutout of the season on her way to earning A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Plantz hasn't allowed a goal in her last 279:59 minutes of play.
Charleston Southern enters play with a 3-3-1 overall record after playing to a 0-0 draw at Georgia Southern. The Buccaneers own a 5-1 record in the all-time series with Upstate that dates back to the 2007 season. Charleston Southern defeated Upstate 2-1 last season at County University Soccer Stadium.
