
Four Spartans Advance on Day One of Upstate Fall Classic

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team saw four of its participants advance Friday afternoon on day one of the USC Upstate Fall Classic from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Second-seeded and Upstate junior Isabel von Stryk made easy work of her competition and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Patricia Alves of Presbyterian to advance into the quarterfinals of the A singles draw. Senior Taylor Cohen turned in a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Jenny Lunde of Gardner-Webb to punch her ticket to the quarterfinals, which are scheduled to begin Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
In the B singles draw, fourth-seeded and Spartan senior Talia Rojas bested Wofford's Emily Erickson to advance into the next round. Rojas will now face Lucia Leahy in Presbyterian for the right to play in the semifinals.
Cohen and freshman Anna Zoske, playing as the top seed in the B doubles draw, qualified for the finals after posting a pair of victories. The duo opened the event with an 8-2 win over Audrey Coventry and Erickson of Wofford before claiming a thrilling 9-8 (7-4) win over fourth-seeded Teodora Stancui and Catherine White of Gardner-Webb.
Back draw doubles action will resume Saturday afternoon following the conclusion of singles play.
