Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate senior keeper Sarah Plantz was selected as the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference office announced Monday morning.
Plantz, the A-Sun's active leader with 258 career saves, posted her second straight victory in helping the Spartans earn a 2-1 victory at Charleston Southern Friday afternoon. The victory was Upstate's second straight on the road and improved its overall record to 3-4-2.
A native of Cartersville, Ga., Plantz recorded eight saves against the Buccaneers, including five in the second half and three in the final 10 minutes of play. She finished the game with a .889 save percentage and now ranks second in the A-Sun with a 0.67 goals against average.
Plantz becomes the only Spartan in school history to be honored as the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week two different times since Upstate made the move to Division I.
Upstate will look to continue its winning ways Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to take on ETSU in the conference opener from Summers-Taylor Stadium.
