Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team opens Atlantic Sun play Saturday evening at 7 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to take on ETSU from Summer-Taylor Stadium.
Upstate (3-4-2) enters the weekend riding a two-match winning streak following a 2-1 win Sept. 20 at Charleston Southern. Sophomores Kenzie Major and Shauna Kain each scored their first career goals, and senior keeper Sarah Plantz recorded eight saves to lead the Spartans to the victory. Plantz, who stands as the A-Sun's active leader in career saves with 258, was named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Major and sophomore Haley Gethin each lead the team with three points on one goal and one assist. Freshman Rachel Baylor and sophomore Courtney Deblois have also each recorded a goal for Upstate this season.
ETSU enters the weekend with a 4-4-1 overall record following a 1-0 setback to Tennessee Technological University on Sept. 22. It was the Buccaneers first loss at home this season, dropping ETSU to 3-1-0 at Summers-Taylor Stadium. ETSU owns a 6-0 record in the all-time series with Upstate that dates back to the 2007 season, which includes a 3-0 win over Upstate last season at County University Stadium.
