
North Florida Uses Early Goal to Down Upstate

Jacksonville, Fla. – North Florida netted both of its goal in the first half and held on for a 2-0 victory over the USC Upstate women's soccer team Friday night from Hodges Stadium.
Amanda Fischler put the Ospreys ahead 1-0 in the 18th minute after using an assist from Kayla Gray to pick up her first goal of the season. Gray managed to weave her way past an Upstate defender and dribble into the Spartan box before delivering a pass to Fischler for a shot into the back of the net.
North Florida added another goal in the 31st minute when Jill Holdsworth struck for her first goal of the season, connecting on a shot from 35 yards out that found its way into the top corner of the Upstate net.
Upstate held a 6-2 advantage in shots in the second half, but North Florida keeper Megan Dorsey tallied five saves in the period to hold the Spartans scoreless. Junior Kenzie Major led Upstate with three shots, while Haley Gethin recorded a pair of shots.
Spartan keeper Ellen Bright finished the game with six saves.
Upstate returns to the pitch Sunday at 2 p.m. when the Spartans head across to face Jacksonville from Southern Oak Stadium.
