
Upstate Completes Play at JU Classic

Jacksonville, Fla. – The USC Upstate women's golf team completed play at the JU Classic at the Marsh Landing Country Club Tuesday afternoon, shooting a 325 in the final round as Rachel Reiling claimed the top individual position on the team.
Upstate finished 13th in the tournament after posting rounds of 315, 312 and 325 for a 952 total. The Spartans counted scores of 78 from Reiling, 81 from Sidney Dermody and Payton Culler, and 85 from Malika Allie in the final round. Reiling finished the tournament tied for 34th with a 231 total.
Coastal Carolina held the overnight lead after the second round on Monday and claimed the team championship by posting a 290 on Tuesday and a tournament total of 874. The Chanticleers were followed on the leaderboard by Troy (897), North Florida (899), Daytona State (900), Charleston Southern (908), Jacksonville (909), Boston U. (910), Maryland (912), Seminole State (915), Western Carolina (925), Stetson (940), McNeese State (950), Upstate (952) and Florida Atlantic (954). Coastal Carolina's Marissa Hinchman won the individual championship with a 213 total.
Reiling was strong early in her round on Tuesday. She birdied her first hole, was 1-under after seven holes and stood even after 10 holes. She finished with a 78 to lead the Upstate cause Tuesday.
Dermody made two birdies on the day and finished with an 81, her first round of the 70's in eight career rounds at Upstate, to finish tied for 39th with a 232 total. Culler made 11 pars during her final round for an 81, while Allie posted a birdie during her round as well en route to an 85.
With four birdies during Tuesday's final round, Upstate increased its total to 16 for the tournament. The Spartans had a successful run in the tournament, posting the lowest 36-hole total (627) by 17 strokes in three appearances in the event. In addition, Upstate turned in its second-lowest round of the season with a 312 in the second round and tied the third-lowest round of the year with a 315 in the first round.
