Spartanburg, S.C. – With the season winding down and the battle to secure a position in the six-team A-Sun Tournament intensifying with every game, the USC Upstate men's soccer team will make the first of its two late-season trips to Florida as it takes on Stetson in DeLand Saturday night.
Upstate (2-7-1, 0-2-0 0 Pts.) enters the game at Stetson looking for its first A-Sun victory early in the conference season. The Spartans have played just two league games with four more on the slate starting with Saturday's game against the Hatters. Stetson is tied for second in the A-Sun with a 2-1-0 record and six points and owns a 5-5-2 overall record. Ernie Yarborough is in his first year as head coach of the Stetson program following the sudden passing of longtime coach T. Logan Fleck this summer.
Stetson leads the all-time series by a 4-1-2 margin with all games being played after Upstate made the transition to NCAA Division I and began play in the A-Sun in 2007. However, Upstate is 1-0-1 in the last two meetings, a 3-0 win at Stetson in 2012 and a 0-0 tie in Spartanburg last year.
