
Spartans Conclude Competition at ITA Carolina Regional

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team dropped both its singles matches on Friday and has concluded its competition at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional from the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the University of North Carolina campus.
Senior Isabel von Stryk suffered a 6-4, 6-3 setback to Marika Akkerman of North Carolina in the main draw, while sophomore Anna Zoske fell 6-1, 6-1 to second-seeded Carolina Price of North Carolina later in the afternoon.
Zoske opened the tournament Thursday with a pair of wins in the qualifying bracket to earn an automatic berth in the main draw. The Duesseldorf, Germany, native bested Sara Bondar of Coastal Carolina 6-0, 7-5 before taking down Mariana Humberg of Winthrop 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to secure her spot in the main draw.
Zoske and von Stryk also competed in doubles action, but were defeated 8-3 by fifth-seeded Hadley Berg and Elixane Lechemia of South Carolina.
Upstate returns to action Oct. 31-Nov. 2 when the Spartans travel across town to take part in the Terrier Fall Invitational hosted by Wofford College.
