
Six Softball Spartans Earn NFCA Scholar-Athlete Honors for 2014

Spartanburg, S.C. – Maintaining its high level of academic standards, the USC Upstate softball program had six members of its 2014 team earn National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athlete honors as the organization announced its team and individual honorees.
Former Spartans Hannah Alexander, Lindsay Kelly, Kara Lohr and Anna Miller and current Spartans Marche Llanos and Lexi Shubert were named NFCA Scholar-Athletes for achieving a GPA of 3.5 or better during the 2013-14 academic year. Miller led the group with a perfect 4.0 GPA and graduated with a 4.0 GPA as a Business Administration major. She was a Capital One First Team Academic All-American, the A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball and the conference's NCAA Woman of the Year nominee. Alexander graduated with a 3.428 GPA, Kelly graduated with a 3.487 GPA and Lohr still attends Upstate but does not play softball any longer, yet maintains a 3.950 GPA. Llanos owns a 3.4117 GPA, while Shubert owns a 3.850 GPA.
The six Spartans selected as Scholar-Athletes by the NFCA helped the softball team record a 3.107 GPA for the year, the eighth consecutive year the program has achieved a GPA over 3.0. Upstate is one of 99 Division I programs that recorded a GPA of 3.0 or better.
