Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team puts the finishing touches on its 2014 home schedule when the Spartans host Francis Marion Tuesday at 7 p.m. from County University Soccer Stadium.
Upstate played its final Atlantic Sun home game of the season Friday night against Lipscomb and honored seniors Samantha Seelinger and Mary Stanton prior to the contest.
Individually, Spartan junior Kenzie Major continues to serve as the offensive catalyst for Upstate, pacing the team with 11 points on five goals and one assist. She needs one more point to become the all-time leader at Upstate during the Division I era.
Sophomore Rachel Baylor stands second on the team with five points on two goals and one assist, while freshman Nicki Krejci leads the team with three assists.
Francis Marion enters the week having won its last two games after opening the season with 10 consecutive losses. The Patriots posted a 2-1 victory over South Carolina State (Oct. 7) before downing Charleston Southern 3-2 (Oct. 11).
Senior Elizabeth Asare leads Francis Marion on offense with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Both sophomore Kelly Anthony and senior Chanel Harris rank second on the team with eight points on three goals and two assists.
"This is a great opportunity for us to end on a high note in our final home game of the season," USC Upstate head coach Abby Minihan said. "We know that Francis Marion will be a difficult opponent, but I expect our team to come out and compete and challenge for a victory."
Francis Marion is 5-2-2 against Upstate in the all-time series that dates back to the 2000 season. The Patriots, however, are just 1-1-2 against the Spartans away from home and have not beaten Upstate at County University Soccer Stadium since 2000.
