Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team will play host to Northern Kentucky Saturday night at 7 p.m. at County University Soccer Stadium in a key A-Sun contest.
Upstate and Northern Kentucky have a lot to play for Saturday night. The Spartans (2-8-1, 0-3-0) enter the game looking for its first win and points in the A-Sun, while the Norse (3-7-4, 0-2-1) have just one point in conference play. The teams are locked in a battle for the final A-Sun Tournament spot, though Jacksonville only has one win and three points in the league standings and it appears all three teams will battle for the final two tournament spots.
Northern Kentucky owns a 2-0-0 lead in the all-time series. The Norse claimed a 2-0 non-conference win over UNC Asheville on Wednesday, its first win since Sept. 23. The Spartans dropped a thrilling 3-2 decision at Stetson last Saturday with less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime period in a key A-Sun game. Upstate has lost two of its three league games by late goals. The Spartans are looking for their first win since taking down Presbyterian in a 2-0 non-conference decision on Sept. 20.
