
Schmiege and Upstate Rank Among Nation's Leaders

Spartanburg, S.C. – Coming off a record-breaking performance last Saturday and earning A-Sun Player of the Week honors Monday, USC Upstate junior midfielder Marvin Schmiege also finds his name atop several A-Sun statistical categories and is ranked among the nation's leaders as well.
Schmiege tops the A-Sun with eight goals, 0.67 goals per game and 1.5 points per game. He also ranks second with 18 points and two game-winning goals. His efforts have also pushed him into the national conversation. He currently ranks 12th in all of NCAA Division I men's soccer in goals per game, 15th in points per game, 25th in total goals and 40th in total points.
Schmiege is not the only Spartan to be listed among the nation's statistical leaders. Joe Brinckwirth ranks 26th in the nation in assists per game while ranking third in the A-Sun. As a team, Upstate ranks eighth in the nation and tops the A-Sun with 5.83 saves per game, while the Spartans rank in the Top 50 in the country at No. 49 with 1.50 assists per game.
Upstate plays host to Jacksonville Saturday night in another key A-Sun game that will help determine the teams and seeding for the upcoming six-team A-Sun Tournament. The Spartans and Dolphins are currently tied for fifth with three points in the A-Sun.
