Spartanburg, S.C. – With the season winding down and the battle to secure a spot in the A-Sun Tournament as well as seed positioning, the USC Upstate men's soccer team will play host to Jacksonville Saturday night at 7 in the Spartans' final home game of the season. The game will also serve as Senior Night and Upstate's Coaches vs. Cancer game.
Upstate will honor seniors Eli Cothran, Matt Flynn, Taylor Scalera and Spencer Woodstock prior to the start of the game, while also raising awareness and funding for the fight against cancer.
Upstate (3-8-1) enters the game tied with Jacksonville (4-10-1) for fifth-place in the A-Sun with three points as the Spartans and Dolphins own identical 1-3-0 records in the league. The winner of the game will clinch a spot in the A-Sun Tournament, while the losing team will battle with Northern Kentucky for the final spot.
Upstate picked up a key A-Sun victory over Northern Kentucky last Saturday to put itself in position to secure a berth in the A-Sun Tournament. Marvin Schmiege scored two goals to lead the Spartans to the 2-1 victory.
