College Sports Madness A-Sun Awards
Spartanburg, S.C. – On the heels of one of the best seasons in school history, USC Upstate junior striker Kenzie Major was selected to the College Sports Madness All-Atlantic Sun second team, it was announced by the publication Friday morning.
Major finished the season first on the team and was tied for second in the A-Sun with seven goals, which included three game-winning goals. The Rome, Ga., native now owns the Upstate all-time single season record for goals during the Division I era.
"I am really excited about this honor because I put a lot of work into this season to try and get better and help my team," Major said. "We are really on our way to doing big things in the near future."
Major also became just the second Spartan in school history and was one of only 11 players in the NCAA this season with four goals in a single game, as she accomplished the feat Sept. 5 at South Carolina State. She would go on to score two goals Oct. 21 against Francis Marion to become the first Spartans with two multi-goal games in the same season since Michelle Calmeyn in 2011.
Major also paced the Spartans and was tied for fifth in the A-Sun with 15 points en route to setting the single season school record for points during the Division I era. She also stood first on the team and fourth in the league with 54 shots to post the most shots in a season by a Spartan since 2002.
Major is the second Spartan to be honored this postseason, as Haley Gethin was named to the All-A-Sun second team by the conference coaches on Thursday.
