
Ruppert, Roell Advance at Terrier Intercollegiate

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate freshmen Nona Ruppert and Nina Roell both posted singles victories and advanced in their respective brackets on the opening day of the Terrier Intercollegiate from Reeves Tennis Center.
Roell turned in a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Jess Heeps-Eriksen of Arkansas State in the SoCon bracket and will face Caroline deLoach of Presbyterian Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the semifinals. Ruppert bested Sabina Jeresic of Arkansas State 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the Wofford bracket and advanced to play Nicole Nielly of Western Carolina Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
Sharlee Deshmukh dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Daria Vasekina of Georgia Southern in the College bracket, but is slated to take on Mary Walker Mixon of Gardner-Webb Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation bracket.
In doubles play, Roell and Ruppert suffered an 8-1 setback to Shannon Bettiol and Elizabeth Ansari of Western Carolina in the black bracket. The duo will next battle Giulia Riepe and Francisca Norregaard of Georgia Southern Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the consolation semifinals.
Deshmukh, playing alongside Daria Iurchenko of Arkansas State, lost 8-6 to Amalie Davidsen and Carolina Sherrer of UNC Asheville in the Gray bracket, but received a bye in the consolation semifinals and will await their opponent for the finals on Sunday.
