Dermody Secures First Career Top 10 Finish at Upstate

Charleston, S.C. – USC Upstate freshman Sidney Dermody entered the CSU Wendy's Invitational with one college tournament under her belt. After shooting a 76 in the final round of the CSU Wendy's Invitational Tuesday, she claimed her first career Top 10 finish to lead the Spartan cause in the tournament.
Dermody recorded two birdies on the back nine and added 11 pars on the day to shoot 76 and claim a tie for 10th place with a 224 total. She made her share of birdies, making 10 in the 54-hole tournament. The tie for 10th comes nearly a month after she shot 77-78=155 to finish 21st at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate in her first college tournament.
"I am extremely proud of Sidney," said Upstate assistant coach Audrey Church. "She has worked hard and it shows. There's something to say about her consistency with her demeanor and attitude on the golf course. She constantly pinpoints her opportunities and uses them as best she can."
Upstate turned in its lowest round of the tournament in the final round, carding a 318. The Spartans counted scores of 76 from Dermody, 79 from Rachel Reiling, 80 from Allie Hawkins and 83 from Payton Culler.
College of Charleston won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 875. The Cougars were followed on the leaderboard by Charleston Southern (895), Bethune-Cookman (909), Tennessee Tech (913), Longwood (927), Presbyterian (957), Upstate (962) and The Citadel (1028). Charleston Southern's Shelby Thompson won the individual championship with a 215 total.
Reiling posted a birdie on the front nine during her round and Hawkins made three birdies during her 18 to increase the Spartans' total to six on the day and 28 for the tournament. Reiling finished the tournament tied for 34th after posting a 242 total. Hawkins finished 38th with a 248 effort, while Culler and Malika Allie came in 42nd and 43rd, respectively.
