Louisville, Ky. – Behind an 89th-place performance from Griffin Eubanks, the USC Upstate men's cross country team turned in a 25th-place finish Friday afternoon at the NCAA Southeast Regional from E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
Eubanks led the Spartans after running the 10K course in 32:00.40 as Upstate concluded the event with 703 points. The finish by the junior was the fourth-best in program history at the NCAA Southeast Regional behind former Spartans Gilbert Kemboi and Cameron Thomas.
"The guys did a great job of racing," said associate head coach Carson Blackwelder. "They ran controlled and to their potential. We were happy with where we finished; our goal was top 25."
Alex Love was the second-fastest Upstate runner Friday as he posted a personal-best time in the 10K of 32:43.10 for a 124th-place finish. Theodore Kountourogiannis followed Love in the individual standings as he placed 164th with a time of 33:39.60. Martin Morrow and Riley Doherty, running in his final race as a Spartan, completed the course together as Morrow was 179th and Doherty 180th. On the women's side, Jasmine Polite closed out her Upstate career with a 126th place finish in the 6K event after crossing the finish line in 22:34.20.
"Jasmine raced well running within a couple of seconds of her personal record," Blackwelder added.
