Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate head women's golf coach Todd Lawton has announced the schedule for the spring and will take the Spartans to six tournaments after playing five during the fall.
Upstate will make return trips to four of the six tournaments, including the A-Sun Championships April 12-14 at the Reunion Resort and Golf Club in Orlando, Fla. The Spartans will also make return trips to the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic, Low Country Intercollegiate and Mimosa Intercollegiate, while making their first visit to the Eagle Invitational and Seminole Invitational.
"The spring schedule combines familiar with new tournaments and has two events with formats just like the A-Sun Championship," said Lawton. "We will play on greens that are similar to Reunion in three events, which is a plus. Lots of great competition in large fields is exciting as well."
Upstate will open the spring season at the Eagle Invitational hosted by A-Sun rival Florida Gulf Coast Feb. 13-15. The tournament is being played at Stoneybrook Country Club. The Spartans will then make their fifth appearance in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic March 1-3. The tournament is one of the largest fields in college golf and is hosted by the College of Charleston at the osprey Point Course at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
Upstate will make its first appearance in the Seminole Invitational hosted by Seminole State March 9-11. The tournament is being played at the Timicuan Golf Club in Lake Mary, Fla. After finishing tied for seventh at last year's Low Country Intercollegiate, the Spartans will make their sixth appearance in the tournament March 21-22. The tournament is hosted by Wofford at the Marsh Creek Country Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Upstate will close out its "regular season" portion of the schedule at the Mimosa Intercollegiate April 5-6. The tournament is being hosted by Appalachian State and is being played at the Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C. Upstate has made one prior appearance, playing in the event in 2010. Upstate will then join seven other A-Sun schools to vie for the conference championship and berth in the NCAA Regionals when the A-Sun Championships are played April 12-14 at the Reunion Resort and Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
