Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team travels to Hilton Head Island to compete in the 36-hole Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford at Moss Creek Plantation Sunday and Monday.
Upstate will look to build on the momentum of a final round 312 in the Pinehurst Challenge on March 16 when it opens play Sunday in the Low Country. The 312 stands as the lowest round shot by the Spartans this spring and the third-lowest round of the season.
Upstate is one of 10 teams playing in Low Country Intercollegiate this week. In addition to the Spartans and Wofford, Appalachian State, Bethune-Cookman, The Citadel, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, Radford, Samford and Western Carolina will compete for the team championship. Two teams, Western Carolina (No. 98) and Samford (No. 100), are ranked in the Top 100 in the latest Golfstat ranking. Amanda Hall will make her fourth appearance in the tournament, while Reiling and Allie joined in her last year's event.
Upstate is making its fifth appearance in the Low Country Intercollegiate and is playing for the fourth-straight year in the tournament. The Spartans' top finish came in 2009 when they finished ninth.
Upstate head coach Todd Lawton will send the same lineup he has used throughout the spring into action this week with Rachel Reiling, Amanda Hall, Allea Hawkins, Malika Allie and Kinsey Soniat suiting up for the Spartans. Reiling, Hall, Hawkins and Allie have played in all seven tournaments for Upstate this season, while Soniat is seeing action for the third time this year.
The lineup is averaging 327.0 in the last two tournaments, while the season average for the Spartans is 321.9. However, the team averaged 322.5 at the Pinehurst Challenge in its second tournament using this lineup.
