Spartanburg, S.C. – In the midst of a five-match road trip, the USC Upstate women's tennis team looks to close the month of March on a high note when the Spartans travel south for weekend matches at North Florida and Georgia Southern.
Upstate will face North Florida Saturday at 10 a.m. before wrapping up competition for the weekend Sunday at 10 a.m. against Georgia Southern.
The Spartans enter the weekend coming off a 4-3 victory over Northern Kentucky in a match that saw Upstate rally from a 3-1 deficit to claim its first league win of the year. The Norse jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Talia Rojas secured the first point of the match for Upstate with a singles win at No. 4.
After Northern Kentucky won the next point, Upstate got consecutive wins from Taylor Cohen, Anna Zoske and Isabel von Stryk to complete the comeback. Von Stryk improved to 10-5 in singles play following her victory, while Zoske picked up her sixth win of the year.
North Florida swept its matches at Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson last weekend to improve to 2-0 in the Atlantic Sun and 9-4 overall. The Ospreys stepped out of conference earlier in the week and dropped at home match to Arkansas. North Florida will face ETSU Friday at 10 a.m. before hosting the Spartans on Saturday.
Georgia Southern owns an 8-9 overall record and a 3-4 mark inside the Southern Conference after the Eagles knocked off Davidson and Akron in its last two matches. Georgia Southern is 5-1 this season when playing at its home court, the Wallis Tennis Center.
