Upstate Concludes Play at A-Sun Women's Championship

Jekyll Island, Ga. – Rachel Reiling shot a 78 to lead USC Upstate in the final round of the A-Sun Women's Golf Championship Wednesday afternoon on the Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Resort. The Spartans finished 10th in the tournament.
All 10 teams had to finish their second round, which was suspended Tuesday due to rain and wind throughout the day. The conditions were rough and Upstate shot a 342 in the second round. The third round proved to be much better for the Spartans as the team shaved 22 shots off its score from the previous round to shoot a 320. Upstate finished the tournament with a 979 total.
ETSU won the A-Sun Championship with an 896 total, claiming the title by seven strokes. The Bucs were led by individual champion Vivienne Chin, who finished the tournament a 3-over-par 219 total.
Kennesaw State claimed second place with a 903 total and was followed on the team leaderboard by Mercer (905), Florida Gulf Coast (921), North Florida (921), Jacksonville (921), Stetson (932), Northern Kentucky (955), Lipscomb (961) and Upstate (979).
Reiling recorded a birdie and played her final nine holes at 2-over to shoot 78 in the final round to lead the Spartans. She finished the tournament in 38th place with a 244 total. Amanda Hall, playing in her final A-Sun Championship, shot an 81 in the final round and finished tied for 35th as the top Spartan in the tournament with a 242 total.
Malika Allie finished as the third-best Upstate player in the tournament, claiming a tie for 39th with a 246 total. She shot an 81 in the final round and recorded a birdie on the day. Allea Hawkins shot the second lowest round of the day for the Spartans, turning in an 80 with a pair of birdies. She finished tied for 45th with a 247 total in her first A-Sun Championship appearance. Also playing in her first A-Sun Championship, Kinsey Soniat finished 48th after shooting an 85 in the final round and claimed a 256 total.
