
Women's Tennis Heads to Elon Fall Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team opens its 2014 fall schedule this weekend when the Spartans travel to Elon, N.C., to take part in the Elon Fall Invitational.
The tournament, which also features Western Kentucky, North Carolina Central, Radford, Liberty, UNC Greensboro, Wake Forest, ETSU, UNC Asheville, Furman and Western Carolina, is scheduled to begin Friday at 9 a.m. and conclude Sunday afternoon.
"This should be a very good test for our team as we begin the fall season," Upstate head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. "We're excited to be playing in such a great tournament, but this will also give us an opportunity to pinpoint our strengths and weaknesses as we move forward throughout the year."
Upstate newcomer Sharlee Deshmukh opens competition for the Spartans when she takes on Tamara Jeremic of North Carolina Central Friday at 9 a.m. in the B-2 singles flight. Fellow freshman Nina Roll will make her Upstate debut at 10 a.m. in the A-3 singles flight against Emily Goeneveld of Liberty.
Sophomore Anna Zoske begins play at 10:30 a.m. against Soumeya Anane of UNC Greensboro in the A-1 singles flight, while Nona Ruppert also starts at 10:30 a.m. with her match against Harper Caswell of Furman in the A-2 singles flight.
Senior Isabel von Stryk will play her opening match at 11 a.m. in the A-1 singles flight against Belen Rivera of Liberty. Von Stryk will also compete in the A-1 doubles flight with Ruppert against Lyn Yee Choo and Ioanna Markesini of ETSU. Times for doubles matches are yet to be determined.
Zoske and Roll will battle Jamie Grinberg and Masey Demoss of UNC Greensboro in the A-2 doubles flight.
