Spartans Finish Day Two of Elon Fall Invitational

Elon, N.C. – Despite heavy rains all throughout the state of North Carolina, the USC Upstate women's tennis team managed to complete competition on day two of the Elon Fall Invitational from the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Spartan senior Isabel von Stryk suffered a 6-1, 6-2 setback to Emilia Granstom of Western Kentucky in her only match of the day, but will face Mariely Hassey of Liberty on Sunday for third place.
In doubles play, von Stryk and newcomer Nona Ruppert dropped an 8-3 decision to Xue Zhang and Karen Forman of Wake Forest in the A-1 flight. The duo, however, will battle Gemma Valls and Taylor Newman of Radford for seventh place on Sunday.
Anna Zoske and Nina Roll were defeated 8-3 by Kristina Centenari and Sara Swift of Wake Forest in the A-2 doubles flight to set up a seventh place match against Grace Sarver and Meg Napolitano of Radford.
Freshman Sharlee Deshmukh, who played alongside Nicola Wellman of Liberty, will also play for seventh place on Sunday. The duo is scheduled to face Cassie Pennington and Emily Przystawski of Western Kentucky.
