
Upstate Returns Home this Weekend to Host North Florida, Jacksonville

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team comes home this weekend as it faces the North Florida Ospreys and Jacksonville Dolphins in a pair of A-Sun matches inside the Hodge Center.
Upstate begins the weekend Friday evening at 6 p.m. against North Florida before hosting Jacksonville at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The match on Friday is Dig Pink Night for the Spartans as all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
The Spartans enter the weekend with a 12-5 overall record and 0-1 mark in the A-Sun after opening conference play last Saturday with a 3-2 loss at Kennesaw State. Against the Owls, Kayla Eversgerd was one of four Upstate players to record double-digit kills after finishing with a double-double of 15 kills and 26 digs. Lexi Gober also collected a double-double on 46 assists and 14 digs. Emily Koelling added 12 kills and Callie Yeargin 10. Shannon Weiss tied her career-high of 25 digs and Rebecca Shearer contributed 17.
As a team, the Spartans currently lead the nation in digs per set and attacks per set. Upstate also sits atop the conference rankings in kills, assists, service aces and digs. Madison Haake ranks third nationally in triple-doubles and Weiss is ninth in service aces per set. Five Spartans rank fifth or better in their respective league categories.
North Florida has a 13-3 overall record and 1-0 conference mark, while Jacksonville is 3-10 on the season and 0-1 against conference opponents. Upstate trails in the all-time series to the Ospreys 30-7 and 11-2 against the Dolphins.
