
Upstate Tied for Seventh Place after First Day of Terrier Intercollegiate

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team opened play at the Terrier Intercollegiate from The Country Club of Spartanburg on Monday with a first round 322 to sit in a tie with Bethune-Cookman for seventh place in the team standings.
Upstate currently sits four strokes back of sixth place Longwood while Kennesaw State enters the clubhouse with the day one lead at 298. Gardner-Webb's Julia Henderson leads the individual standings after shooting a first round even-par 72.
Malika Allie turned in the top individual score for the Spartans on Monday with an opening round 79 (+7) to sit in a tie for 18th place. Allie had a team-high two birdies on the day coming back-to-back at the 7th and 8th holes.
Sidney Dermody is just one stroke behind Allie in a tie for 24th position after carding her round of 80, while Payton Culler and Allea Hawkins are both within a combined two strokes of Dermody. Culler posted a first round 81 to tie for 30th and Hawkins recorded an 82 to stand tied for 33rd place.
Dermody and Culler added one birdie each with both taking place at the par-4 9th hole.
Allie Gennaula began tournament play with an opening round 85 and is tied for 43rd place.
The final round of the Terrier Intercollegiate will tee off at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Upstate will begin its day on holes 11-15.
