
Upstate Hosts Lipscomb, NJIT this Weekend as Homestand Continues

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team remains at home this weekend as it hosts the Lipscomb Bisons and NJIT Highlanders in a pair of A-Sun matches inside the Hodge Center.
Upstate begins play Friday evening at 6 p.m. against Lipscomb before hosting NJIT at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Both matches are being televised on ESPN3.
The Spartans will also be holding a Pumpkin Carving Contest during the match on Friday as fans will have the opportunity to vote on the best-looking pumpkin. The USC Upstate Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be holding a canned food drive in conjunction with the pumpkin carving contest. All fans that are participating in the voting for the contest are asked to bring canned foods or non-perishable food items and place in the basket of the pumpkin you wish to vote for.
The Spartans began a five-match homestand last Saturday with a 3-2 loss to Kennesaw State. Madison Haake collected her fifth triple-double of the season against the Owls with 13 kills, 21 assists and a career-high 20 digs. She was one of three players to record double-digit kills led by Emily Koelling with 14. Morgan Deaville also eclipsed a new career-high in digs as the freshman tallied 10 coming off the bench. Kaleigh Kelley tied Haake for the team-lead in digs while Lexi Gober added 24 assists.
As a team this season, Upstate leads the nation in digs per set and attacks per set, and rank in the top 10 in attacks and digs. The Spartans also lead the A-Sun in service aces by 13 and digs by 239 over North Florida. Haake and Gober are both tied for the conference-lead in service aces with 29 on the season.
Lipscomb currently sits at 15-8 overall and 7-1 in the league, while NJIT is 6-18 on the season and 1-7 against conference opponents. Upstate trails in the all-time series with Lipscomb 13-0 but lead NJIT 1-0.

The Spartans wrap up their home schedule next weekend (Nov. 6-7) against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. The match against Florida Gulf Coast will also be "Senior Night" for Upstate.
