
Spartan Men Place 4th, Women 10th at Upstate Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – Griffin Eubanks recorded a sixth place finish Saturday morning to lead the USC Upstate cross country team as the Spartan men turned in a fourth place performance and the women placed ninth at the Upstate Invitational from Milliken Research Center.
The Upstate men totaled 108 points as a team led by the sixth place finish from Eubanks, giving him five finishes of sixth or better in his career. Eubanks ran the 8K course in 25:55.03 and marks the fastest individual time turned in by the Spartans this season. The senior previously held the top time of the year after running a 25:58.30 at the Winthrop Invitational two weeks ago.
Theodore Kountourogiannis, Mark Rennix and Alex Love finished within five spots and 15 seconds of each other. Kountourogiannis ran the course in 26:53.86, Rennix crossed the finish line with a 27:03.18 and Love compiled a 27:08.63. Martin Morrow was the next fastest runner after his time of 27:54.50 followed by Dorian Jones with a 27:58.33. Marcus Miles recorded a personal-best time in the 8K of 28:44.19.
Anastasia Kolesnitchenko had the top performance for the Upstate women as it tallied 265 points as a team for a ninth place showing. Kolesnitchenko finished the 5K race with a time of 20:10.90 and was followed by Ashleigh Torres after she ran a 20:28.88. The Spartans had four runners finish within five spots led by Rebecca Elliott who ran a 21:42.75. Kelsey Warren also set a new personal-best in the 5K with her time of 22:01.72. Essence Jackson (22:06.26) and Haley McCoy (22:07.31) rounded out the race for Upstate.
Appalachian State took home top honors in the women's race while High Point captured the men's event. Kelly Hayes and Vinny Todaro of High Point finished in first place individually.
The Spartans return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the College of Charleston Classic in Johns Island, S.C.
