Spartans Host Gardner-Webb Saturday

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team puts its two-match winning streak on the line Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Spartans host Gardner-Webb from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
The Spartans secured 7-0 shutout victories over both Slippery Rock and Baldwin Wallace University last week from Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Senior Isabel von Stryk ran her singles winning streak to seven after winning in straight sets against both opponents last week. She enters the weekend first on the team with a 7-2 overall record from the No. 1 position.
Von Stryk has also won six doubles matches in a row playing alongside freshman Nona Ruppert, as the duo has not lost since Jan. 31 at Coastal Carolina.
Freshman Nina Roell and Ruppert are tied for second on the team with four singles victories. Ruppert has won three straight matches and Roell has captured two straight.
Gardner-Webb snapped a three-match losing streak Wednesday following a 6-1 victory at North Carolina A&T. Despite the win, the Bulldogs arrive in Spartanburg with a 4-5 overall record and a 1-3 mark on the road.
