2015 Schedule
Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate associate head coach Carson Blackwelder has announced this afternoon that his cross country squad will compete in six meets during the upcoming 2015 season including two at nearby Milliken Research Center.
For the second straight year, the Spartans will host two home meets in the Eye Opener Invitational and Upstate Invitational. The Eye Opener Invitational kicks off the season on Friday, Sept. 4 beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the running of the women's 5K followed by the men's 8K at 7:10 p.m. The Upstate Invitational will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 with the women's 5K at 9 a.m. and the men's 8K at 9:45 a.m.
"We have two home meets this year," said Blackwelder. "The Upstate Invitational will be a great race with a lot of good teams. It may be one of the best races on our schedule."
Upstate will take a week off following the Eye Opener before heading to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Winthrop Invitational (Sept. 19). Following the Upstate Invitational, the Spartans travel to Charleston, S.C. for the College of Charleston Classic (Oct. 16) in their final meet prior to the A-Sun Championships.
The Spartans captured the men's team championship at last season's College of Charleston Invitational behind four top-10 performances. The Upstate men recorded seven personal-best times at the meet while two compiled career-best finishes.
"Our schedule will be a challenging one for all of our runners," Blackwelder added. "We will return to Trophy Lakes in Charleston where many of our runners saw personal-bests last year."
The 2015 A-Sun Cross Country Championships, hosted by North Florida, is scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Hayt Golf Learning Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
The NCAA Southeast Regionals will be held Nov. 13 in Charlottesville, Va.
