
Chanthaphaeng Paces Upstate on Day One of Winthrop Intercollegiate

Rock Hill, S.C. – Freshman Anna Chanthaphaeng led the USC Upstate women's golf team during the first round of the Winthrop Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon from the par 72, 5993-yard Rock Hill Country Club.
Chanthaphaeng, a native of nearby Boiling Springs, S.C., had the top individual performance for Upstate on Saturday with a first round 83 and is currently tied for 26th place with four other players.
The Spartans opened the tournament with a team score of 336 and stand in seventh place heading into final round action on Sunday.
Upstate has four of its five players within two strokes of each other as Pan Paksanont and Sidney Dermody are the second-highest Spartans in the standings behind Chanthaphaeng. Paksanont and Dermody both had rounds of 84 on Saturday and are tied for 31st place. Allea Hawkins sits just one stroke back of Paksanont and Dermody in a tie for 35th after her opening round 85. Payton Culler rounds out the standings for the Spartans in 45th position with an 89.
Host school Winthrop holds a 12 stroke lead over Appalachian State after shooting an opening round 304. On the individual leaderboard, Winthrop's Chelsea Dantonio leads with a first round 73.
The final round of the Winthrop Intercollegiate will tee off at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
