Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team closes out non-conference play on Tuesday evening when it hosts the Georgia State Panthers at 6 p.m. from County University Soccer Stadium.
The first 50 USC Upstate students in attendance for the match will receive a free Upstate Athletics t-shirt.
The Spartans (3-5) won their first ASUN contest of the season last Saturday with a 1-0 victory at home over Jacksonville. Victor Borba Labi scored the game-winner for Upstate with his first career goal as a Spartan in the 89th minute of play. Davis Smith made three saves in net to earn his first career win, and first shutout, as a Spartan.
Georgia State (6-5) is coming off a 2-1 defeat to the University of the Pacific at home on Sunday. The Panthers are under the direction of seventh-year head coach Brett Surrency. GSU is led offensively by Hannes Burmeister with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Yannic Horn has allowed 16 goals this season for a 1.40 GAA and grabbed 39 saves, which is good enough for a .709 save percentage.
Upstate and Georgia State are meeting for the 12th time in program history on Tuesday and is the first matchup between the two teams since 2010. The Panthers hold a 7-2-2 lead in the all-time series. In the last meeting, the teams battled to a 1-1 draw in Atlanta, Ga. on Sept. 4, 2010.
