
Seniors Lead Upstate at NCAA Southeast Regional Meet

Earlysville, Va.- The USC Upstate cross country teams wrapped up the 2016 season on Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Virginia at Panorama Farms.
The Upstate men scored a 25th place finish while the women's team finished in 32nd place. This is the second consecutive season that the men finished in 25th place.
"The guys did a good job of racing and putting themselves in good position," head coach Carson Blackwelder said. "This is a tough course and it really challenges you."
Noteworthy
- Running her final collegiate cross country race, senior Essence Jackson led the women's team with a 205th place finish in 24:51.8 at the 6k distance.
- Jackson and Haley McCoy turned in a faster time at this year's race compared to their result at Panorama Farms in 2015.
- The women finished with an average time of 25:57.
- Senior Theodore Kountourogiannis led the Upstate men with a 99th place finish with a 10k time of 31.41.4. Kountourogiannis improved his time from last year's race by just over one minute.
- All four men's runners (Kountourogiannis, Alex Love, Dorian Jones, Abraham Hernandez) who competed in last year's race improved their times on Friday.
- The men finished with an average time of 32:44.52.
- NC State was the team winner for both the men's and women's races.
- Campbell's Amon Terer won the men's race while Annie Bothma of Coastal Carolina won the women's race.
