
Upstate Travels to the Coast for Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team is set to return to the course beginning Sunday as the Spartans travel to Kiawah Island, S.C. for the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic at the Osprey Point and Oak Point Golf Courses.
Upstate will be sending out a five-player lineup of Payton Culler, Allea Hawkins, Sidney Dermody, Malika Allie and Allie Gennaula for the three-day tournament.
The Spartans are participating in the largest tournament in the country this season as a total of 41 teams will be competing throughout the three days. Upstate is one of five teams from the A-Sun taking part in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic along with Jacksonville, Lipscomb, North Florida and Stetson.
The first two rounds will tee off at 9:15 a.m. Sunday and Monday mornings, while the final round begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start. After 36 holes of play, the top 20 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point Golf Course during the final round, and teams 21-41 will compete for a flight championship at Oak Point Golf Course.
The Spartans opened their spring season Feb. 12-13 with a 15th place finish at the FGCU Eagle Invitational in Estero, Fla. Culler led Upstate individually after tying for 56th place with a total score of 241. Hawkins tied her career-low round on the final day at 2-over 74.
The Spartans will travel to Lake Mary, Fla. Mar. 7-9 for the Seminole State Spring Break at Timicuan Golf Club.
