Spartanburg, S.C. – After spending the last two games on the road, the USC Upstate men's soccer team returns home Saturday evening to host the Jacksonville Dolphins in ASUN play at 7 p.m. from County University Soccer Stadium.
Upstate will hold a special pregame ceremony on Saturday. At 5:45 p.m., the Spartans are honoring James Campbell with a bench dedication ceremony that will be held on the concourse of County University Soccer Stadium.
Upstate (2-5, 0-1) dropped its ASUN opener on the road last Saturday with a 2-1 defeat at Stetson. Morten Timm scored his second goal of the season against Stetson while Rinaldi Alphonse dished out his second assist. Santiago Restrepo tied his career-high of four saves. Cam Philpot led the Spartans offensively with seven shots including five going on-goal.
Jacksonville (4-5, 1-1) has split its first two conference games of the season with a loss to NJIT followed by a 2-1 win over Lipscomb on Sept. 24. The Dolphins are under the direction of third-year head coach Mauricio B Ruiz. Kai Bennett leads Jacksonville with nine points this season on four goals. Patrick Harding has allowed 10 goals in seven games, and grabbed 17 saves for a 1.40 GAA.
Upstate is facing the Dolphins for the 13th time in program history with JU holding an 8-4 lead in the all-time series. The Spartans have won the last three meetings including a 3-2 overtime victory last season in the ASUN Tournament, sending them to their first semifinals in school history.
