
Upstate Wraps up Road Trip Tuesday at Gardner-Webb

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team will play its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday evening when it travels to Boiling Springs, N.C. for a 6 p.m. contest against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
The Spartans are returning to the field for the first time since Oct. 10 when they battled to a 0-0 draw in non-conference play at N.C. State.
Goalie CJ Cluck collected his first shutout at Upstate against the Wolfpack after finishing with a season-high seven saves. It was also the first shutout of the season for the Spartans after holding N.C. State scoreless over the course of 110 minutes. Six different Upstate players registered one shot each while JR Cozine and Anson Girone had one attempt on goal each.
Cluck was rewarded for his performance on Monday afternoon by being named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Cam Philpot leads the Spartans offensively this season with seven points on three goals and one assist while Calon Minors has dished out a team-leading two assists. Cluck has contributed 17 saves this year.
Upstate ranks third in the ASUN this season with 73 corner kicks.
Gardner-Webb currently sits at 5-5-1 on the season with wins over Wofford, VMI, Furman, Presbyterian College and UNC Asheville. The Runnin' Bulldogs are led offensively by Severin Soerlie with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Marc-Kevin Schwenk has dished out a team-leading five assists. Jacob Beyer has grabbed 51 saves this season in goal. Gardner-Webb is under the direction of 28th-year head coach Tony Setzer.
The Spartans and Runnin' Bulldogs are meeting for the 13th time in program history on Tuesday with Upstate holding a 6-4-2 lead in the all-time series. The Spartans have won the last two meetings in the series including a 4-1 victory last season in Spartanburg.

The Spartans play their final home game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast. It will also be Senior Night for Upstate.
