
Upstate Garners Two ASUN Volleyball Weekly Honors

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate junior setter Madison Haake and freshman right side Lily Dempsey have been honored for their performance last weekend as the ASUN Conference announced this afternoon that the duo were named the Volleyball Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week.
Haake was recognized as the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week while Dempsey garnered her second Freshman of the Week accolade this season. For Haake, it is her second career ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor with her first coming exactly a year ago this week.
Haake totaled 34 digs over the weekend, averaging 4.25 digs per set against Jacksonville and North Florida. In the Spartans home opener on Friday against Jacksonville, Haake notched her third triple-double of the season after recording 11 kills, 31 assists and 20 digs. She followed that up with another strong performance on Sunday with a double-double of 21 assists and 14 digs as Upstate swept North Florida. This season Haake sits in the top-10 among ASUN players in digs with 169.
Dempsey continues her strong freshman season after combining for 30 kills and averaged 3.75 kills per set over the weekend. In a hard-fought five-set loss to Jacksonville on Friday evening, Dempsey tied her career-high of 20 kills and added 11 digs for her first career double-double. Her 20 kills are the seventh-most in a single-match this season among ASUN players. This season, Dempsey averages 2.65 kills per set and ranks her second among ASUN freshmen.
