Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team will stay in Spartanburg on Monday and Tuesday as the Spartans play in their final tournament of the fall at the Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford from the par 72, 6,012-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.
The Terrier Intercollegiate is a 36-hole tournament played over the course of two days. Monday will feature 18 holes of competition with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. Teams will also play 18 holes Tuesday with a 10 a.m. start.
Upstate is one of 11 teams competing at the Terrier Intercollegiate along with Wofford, Appalachian State, The Citadel, Converse, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, High Point, Presbyterian College, Tennessee Tech and Western Carolina.
The Spartans will be sending out a five-player lineup consisting of Pan Paksanont, Anna Chanthaphaeng, Payton Culler, Brooke Hutto and Sidney Dermody. Caroline Heustess and Marley DeFreitas are also competing as individuals.
Upstate is coming off a record-breaking tournament last week at the FAU Fall Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla. The Spartans set a new school scoring record for lowest round twice capped by a 289 on the final day. Upstate finished in fourth place after shooting a combined score of 581 (292-289). All 12 rounds turned in by Spartan golfers were in the 70's or lower.
Paksanont also set a new school record for lowest individual score following her first round 67, surpassing the seven-year old mark of 69 set by Rachel Lewis. The 67 was a career-low round for Paksanont. Culler joined Paksanont by recording a new career-low score after shooting a 69 in the second round.
Paksanont was rewarded for her performance on Thursday by being named the ASUN Women's Golfer of the Week for the first time in her career. She is the third women's golfer in program history to receive the weekly award and first since Rachel Reiling in 2014-15.
