
Upstate Continues Homestand this Weekend Hosting Lipscomb, Kennesaw State

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team remains at home this weekend continuing a five-match homestand as it hosts the Lipscomb Bisons and Kennesaw State Owls in a pair of ASUN matches inside the G.B. Hodge Center.
Upstate begins the weekend on Friday evening when it plays Lipscomb at 6 p.m. and concludes on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Kennesaw State.
The Spartans are holding their Dig Pink match on Friday versus Lipscomb and all fans attending are encouraged to wear pink in support of cancer awareness. Upstate will be holding a contest between the second and third sets on Friday. Fans can purchase pink tennis balls leading up to the contest with the cost being $1 for one tennis ball and $5 for six. The closest person to roll their tennis ball to center court will win a prize pack. All proceeds will go to benefit cancer research.
The Spartans have won each of their last two matches capped by a 3-1 victory last Saturday at home over NJIT. Montana Swanson netted her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs. Lily Dempsey finished with a team-high 12 kills and five assisted blocks to go with a .259 hitting percentage. Madison Haake added 35 assists and nine digs while Payton Duncan contributed 17 digs.
Upstate currently ranks third in the ASUN this season in digs. Haake ranks sixth in the conference in assists and tenth in digs. Kaleigh Kelley sits eighth in the conference in digs and Dempsey is ninth in kills. Nationally, Haake is second in triple-doubles.
The Spartans are facing Lipscomb for the 19th time in program history and Kennesaw State the 20th. The Bisons come into the weekend with an 11-10 overall record and 4-4 ASUN mark while Kennesaw State is 13-4 on the season and 7-1 against conference opponents.

The Spartans play their final home matches of the season next weekend, Nov. 3-5, against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.
