
Upstate Begins Five-Match Road Trip this Weekend at FGCU, Stetson

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team hits the road to start a five-match road trip this weekend as the Spartans are slated to face the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and Stetson Hatters on Friday and Saturday in ASUN action.
The Spartans begin the weekend on Friday at 7 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast before playing Stetson at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Upstate is facing Florida Gulf Coast for the 17th time in program history while it will be playing Stetson for the 18th time. The Spartans hold a 10-7 lead in the all-time series over the Hatters following a 3-0 sweep in the regular season finale last year in Spartanburg.
Upstate posted a 1-1 record last weekend in its first home matches of the season against Jacksonville and North Florida. The Spartans closed out the weekend with a 3-0 sweep of North Florida on Sunday. In the 3-2 loss on Friday to Jacksonville, Madison Haake recorded her third triple-double of the season while Lily Dempsey tied her career-high of 20 kills. Haake added a double-double in the win over North Florida along with Montana Swanson and Rebecca Shearer.
Haake and Dempsey were recognized by the ASUN Conference on Monday for their performances in the two matches. Haake was named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week while Dempsey garnered Freshman of the Week accolades.
Upstate currently ranks second in the ASUN this season in digs per set and fourth in digs.
Florida Gulf Coast enters the weekend with a 10-6 overall record and 2-1 mark in conference play while Stetson is 1-14 on the season and 0-3 in the ASUN.
