LakePoint, Ga. – USC Upstate midfielder Florian Langenegger was recognized by the ASUN Conference on Wednesday afternoon as he was one of seven players to be unanimously selected to the All-Freshman Team as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Langenegger becomes the sixth Spartan men's soccer player in program history to be named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team, joining Joel Bunting (2016), Gordon Wild (2015), Heiko Allmendinger (2014), Lukas Sommer (2014) and Dave Musambi (2011).
A native of Eberfing, Germany, Langenegger started the most games of any Upstate freshman this season in the midfield. He started in all 14 games he appeared in and played the fifth-most minutes of any player with 1,160 minutes. Langenegger attempted six shots with four going on goal. He took a season-high two shots against Lipscomb, while registering one each versus Georgia State, Stetson, Jacksonville and Florida Gulf Coast. Langenegger played in all 90 minutes of a game six times as well as 104 minutes in a double-overtime contest at N.C. State.
Langenegger was part of a Spartan defense that held N.C. State scoreless in a 0-0 draw on Oct. 10 in Raleigh, N.C.
