
Upstate Ready for Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team is scheduled to compete in its fourth tournament of the spring on Sunday and Monday when it heads to Morganton, N.C. for the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at the par 72, 6099-yard Mimosa Hills Country Club.
The Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate is a 36-hole tournament that will be played over the course of two days. Sunday and Monday will each feature 18 holes of competition and each day begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Upstate is one of 11 teams competing in the two-day tournament along with Appalachian State, Gardner-Webb, Elon, Winthrop, Longwood, Sandhills C.C., Bethune-Cookman, High Point, Western Carolina and Wofford.
The Spartans will be sending out a five-player lineup consisting of Payton Culler, Pan Paksanont, Anna Chanthaphaeng, Sidney Dermody and Allea Hawkins. Marley DeFreitas is also competing as an individual.
Upstate compiled its second straight fourth place performance on March 19 at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Spartans had a combined score of 647 (320-327) and finished higher in the tournament than two teams ranked 175th or better in the Golfstat rankings in Bethune-Cookman and Appalachian State, as well as Dalton State and USC Beaufort who were third and sixth in the NAIA rankings.
Paksanont was the top individual performer for Upstate after posting her best career finish of tied for eighth, and was her second straight top-10 performance and fourth overall this year. Paksanont tied for first among the tournament field in par 3 scoring and was third in pars. Culler was tied for second in both par 4 scoring and birdies, while Dermody ranked tied for seventh in par 4 scoring and tied for 10th in pars. Chanthaphaeng was tied for fourth in par 3 scoring.
Dermody and Culler also recorded their best individual performances of the season by tying for 19th place.
The Spartans close out their spring season April 16-18 at the ASUN Women's Golf Championships in Braselton, Ga.
