
Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season with USC Upstate Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team opens its fall season this weekend as the Spartans host the 2017 USC Upstate Invitational at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Two rounds of doubles play beginning at 12 p.m. get Friday's action started followed by one round of singles matches. Matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Furman and Queens complete the five-team field.
Upstate has eight players scheduled to compete this weekend. Carol Sigaki and Vale Zarama are slated to face Gardner-Webb's Daniela Naupari and Paula Romero in their opening doubles draw. Taylor Dodd and Sarah Parker will play Furman's Anna Walter and Hannah Ferrett. Noelia Acuna and Gabriela Cevallos make their Upstate debut against Georgia Southern's Emelia Bujan and Ellla Monsey. Morgan Dodd and Elin Hellberg open the weekend against Claire Chase and Laine Parker of Gardner-Webb.
In singles matches, Acuna, Cevallos, Morgan Dodd and Zarama will play in the Green Singles bracket. Taylor Dodd, Hellberg, Parker and Sigaki will play in the Black Singles bracket.
The USC Upstate Invitational is one of seven tournaments the Spartans are scheduled to compete in during the fall. Upstate returns to action next weekend at the Mountain Challenge in Asheville, N.C.
