
Upstate Battles High Point on the Road Saturday Evening

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday evening when the Spartans travel to High Point, N.C. to face the High Point Panthers in a non-conference match at 7 p.m. from Vert Stadium.
Upstate began its week on Wednesday against another Big South Conference opponent, Winthrop, and dropped a 4-0 decision on the road. The Spartans held a 16-11 advantage over the Eagles in shots including an 8-6 mark in attempts on net. Upstate also led 9-1 in corner kicks. Cam Philpot attempted a team-high four shots while Jaedon Williamson added three. Goalie CJ Cluck grabbed a total of two saves in net.
Upstate currently leads the ASUN this season with 38 corner kicks, and is second in shots and shots per game. Philpot and JR Cozine are both tied for fourth in the conference with two goals while Philpot is tied for fifth in points. Philpot also ranks second in the league in shots on goal and tied for second in shots.
High Point enters the contest with a 2-2-1 overall record and has earned wins this season over Howard and UNC Greensboro, and picked up a tie against Davidson in its last game on Tuesday. Justen Shear leads the Panthers offensively with four points on two goals while goalie Keegan Meyer has grabbed 13 saves and recorded one shutout. High Point is under the direction of third-year head coach EJ O'Keeffe.
The Spartans and Panthers are meeting for the eighth time in program history on Saturday and Upstate leads the all-time series 5-2.
