Cross Country Has Solid Start at Eye Opener Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate cross country teams kicked off the 2017 season on Friday evening as they hosted the 34th annual Eye Opener Invitational at Milliken Research Center.
The Upstate men's team finished in second place while the women's team finished in third place in results that were revised Tuesday.
Noteworthy
- Making her collegiate debut, Marcy Bradshaw led the women's team with a personal-best time of 20:13.5. She finished in 27th place.
- Dorian Jones was the top men's finisher in 18th place with a time of 27:03.0.
- The women's team finished the 5K race with a team average time of 20:56. The average time for the men's team in their 8K race was 27:58.
- Furman won both the men's and women's team portion of the meet for the second consecutive season. Allie Buchalski of Furman won the women's race with Furman's Aaron Templeton crossing the finish line first in the men's race.
- In addition to competing in the collegiate portion of the race on Friday, both teams used Saturday as a day to give back to the Spartanburg area by volunteering as part of the program's commitment to community service. Upstate cross country and track & field student-athletes volunteered with the high school portion of the Eye Opener, which consisted of six cross country races and is one of the largest meets in the Southeast.
