
Upstate Entertains Lipscomb Saturday in First ASUN Home Match

Spartanburg, S.C. – After spending the last three matches on the road, the USC Upstate men's soccer team returns to County University Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening when it hosts the Lipscomb Bisons at 7 p.m.
Upstate enters the contest with a 2-5-1 overall record and 0-1 in the conference after dropping its ASUN opener at NJIT 2-1 on Wednesday. Lipscomb sits at 4-3 on the season and is opening its conference season on Saturday.
The Spartans began the ASUN portion of their schedule on Wednesday with a 2-1 loss at NJIT to wrap up a three-match road trip. Ryan Herbert came off the bench to score his first career goal at Upstate while Sebastian Quinteros also dished out his first career assist. In goal, Santiago Restrepo and CJ Cluck combined for five saves.
Upstate currently ranks second in the ASUN this season with 54 corner kicks and is tied for third in saves. Calon Minors sits second in the conference in assists while JR Cozine is tied for sixth in goals scored. Cam Philpot ranks in the top 10 for the league in goals scored, points, shots and shots on goal.
The Bisons are led by Logan Paynter with ten points this year on four goals and two assists. Ivan Alvarado and Kyle Smith have also contributed two assists. Goalie Christopher Zappia has compiled 25 saves and a 1.94 goals against average. Lipscomb is under the direction of 13th-year head coach Charles Morrow.
The Spartans and Bisons are meeting for the 11th time in program history on Saturday with Lipscomb holding a 7-3 lead in the all-time series.
