
Spartans Continue Fall Slate at WNC Mountain Challenge

Spartanburg, S.C. – For the second consecutive weekend, the USC Upstate women's tennis team takes to the court as they compete at the WNC Mountain Challenge in Asheville, N.C.
Western Carolina and Kennesaw State are scheduled to compete along with Upstate and tournament host UNC Asheville. All matches will take place at Asheville Racquet Club.
Upstate opens the tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m. with doubles matches against Western Carolina followed by doubles matches against tournament host UNC Asheville. At 12:30, the Spartans will play singles matches against Kennesaw State. Sunday's action starts with doubles at 9 a.m. against Western Carolina followed by singles play against Western Carolina and Kennesaw State.
Last weekend eight Spartan student-athletes combined to win 11 matches. Freshman Elin Hellberg claimed five victories, including the Black Singles Consolation bracket championship. Hellberg wasn't the only Upstate player to reach the finals as the doubles pairing of Noelia Acuna and Gabriela Cevallos advanced to the finals of the doubles consolation bracket.
Following this weekend's action, the Spartans will take a weekend off before returning to the USC Upstate Tennis Complex on Oct. 7-8 for the USC Upstate Challenge.
