
Upstate Hosts Jacksonville, North Florida this Weekend in First Home Matches

Spartanburg, S.C. – For the first time this season, the USC Upstate volleyball team will play at the G.B. Hodge Center when it hosts the Jacksonville Dolphins and North Florida Ospreys in a pair of ASUN matches this weekend.
Upstate begins its weekend on Friday at 6 p.m. against Jacksonville before facing North Florida on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The first 100 USC Upstate students in attendance for Friday's match will receive a free slice of pizza.
The Spartans began conference play last weekend with a 3-2 victory on the road against NJIT, marking the second straight year they have begun ASUN competition with a win. Lily Dempsey led Upstate offensively at NJIT with 12 kills while Callie Yeargin added 11 kills and just missed on a double-double with nine digs. Kaleigh Kelley had a team-high 16 digs and Montana Swanson contributed 10.
The Spartans currently rank third in the ASUN this season in digs and digs per set. Individually, Kelley is third in the conference in digs and fourth in digs per set, while Madison Haake sits fourth among league players in assists and sixth in assists per set. Haake is also tied for third, along with Dempsey, in service aces.
Jacksonville enters the weekend with a 6-7 overall record and 1-0 record in the conference while North Florida is 6-9 on the season and 0-1 in ASUN play.

The Spartans begin a five-match road trip next weekend, Oct. 6-7, at Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.
