
Upstate Remains at Home Saturday to Host Stetson

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team is back in action on Saturday evening when it remains in conference play hosting the Stetson Hatters at 7 p.m. from County University Soccer Stadium.
Upstate is playing its third ASUN game of the season, and second at home, and is coming off a 4-0 defeat to Lipscomb last Saturday in its conference home opener. Sebastian Quinteros came off the bench to lead the Spartans offensively with three shots and was one of four players, along with Cam Philpot, Florian Langanegger and JR Cozine to have one shot on goal. Goalie CJ Cluck finished with one save.
Upstate currently leads the ASUN this season in corner kicks with 60 for an average of nearly seven per game. Philpot ranks ninth or better for the league in points, goals, shots and shots on goal. Cozine is also tied with Philpot in goals scored while Calon Minors sits tied for fourth in assists.
Stetson enters the weekend with a 4-4 overall record and 2-0 mark in the conference. The Hatters have recorded wins this season over Bucknell, Mercer, North Florida and Lipscomb. Stetson is led offensively by Finn Busmann with six points on two goals and two assists. In goal, Joseph Melong has grabbed 18 saves and tallied a 0.81 goals against average. The Hatters are under the direction of first-year head coach Kyle Gookins.
The Spartans are facing Stetson for the 11th time in program history on Saturday evening with the Hatters holding a 6-1-3 lead in the all-time series.
