USC Upstate Undefeated after First Day of Blue Hose Match Play

Ninety Six, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team opened play at the Blue Hose Match Play on Monday by winning both of its matches from the par 72, 6121-yard The Patriot Golf Club.
USC Upstate defeated The Citadel Bulldogs and Radford Highlanders to go 2-0 on the opening day of match play. The Spartans recorded identical 3.5-1.5 victories over the Bulldogs and Highlanders.
MATCH ONE – THE CITADEL
- USC Upstate captured three of the five singles matches, and halved one match, to win 3.5-1.5 over The Citadel.
- The Spartans received wins from Pan Paksanont, Anna Chanthaphaeng and Beem Pabsimma.
- Brooke Hutto halved her match against Mackenzie Battle at No. 4.
- Paksanont won her No. 1 match 8&6 over Erin Buckman while Chanthaphaeng earned a 6&4 victory against Nadia Sandler at No. 2.
- Pabsimma, playing at No. 3, picked up a 3&2 win versus Ashlee Richardson.
MATCH TWO – RADFORD
- USC Upstate won three more singles matches against Radford and picked up one-half point in another to capture a 3.5-1.5 triumph.
- Paksanont, Pabsimma and Hutto all won in their respective singles matches.
- Chanthaphaeng earned a half against Sidney Walker in the No. 2 match.
- Paksanont, playing at No. 1, picked up a 2UP victory against Bea Mosquera Quintas and Pabsimma secured a 4&3 win over Natalie Walsh at No. 3.
- Hutto also won 4&3 against Riko Nagai in the No. 4 match.
INDIVIDUAL MATCH PLAY
- Marley DeFreitas and Caroline Heustess are both competing as individuals this week at the Blue Hose Match Play.
- DeFreitas compiled a 2-0 record on Monday with a 4&3 win against Presbyterian College's Caroline Martin and a 3&2 victory over Hannah Tuttle of Radford.
- Heustess captured her opening match over Taylor Gardner of Presbyterian College in a playoff before falling to Longwood's Morgan Mugnolo 3&2 in the second round.
- DeFreitas will face Mugnolo in the individual championship match tomorrow morning while Heustess plays Tuttle in the third place match.
