Athens, Ga. – The USC Upstate softball team dropped a 10-0 non-conference decision in five innings to the sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday evening at Jack Turner Stadium.

USC Upstate falls to 29-16 on the season while Georgia improves to 38-6 overall.

Scoring Breakdown

Bottom 1^st – The Bulldogs struck first for two runs and led the Spartans 2-0 on a 2-run homer by Alyssa DiCarlo.
Bottom 2^nd – Georgia added four runs to extend its lead to 6-0 highlighted by a two-RBI double from Cortni Emanuel. DiCarlo and Justice Milz also had RBI singles.
Bottom 3^rd – The Bulldogs made it a 9-0 contest in the third after scoring three times. Milz plated two more runs with her single while Jordan Doggett recorded an RBI single.
Bottom 4^th – DiCarlo hit her second home run of the game, a solo blast, to put Georgia ahead 10-0.

Notables

Mary Wilson Avant (5-1) earned the win after not allowing a run on two hits, two walks and three strikeouts in four innings of work.
Caylie Van Auken (4-4) suffered the loss pitching 1.2 innings and gave up six runs (two earned) on six hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
Kristen Wright and Brittany Case led USC Upstate with one hit apiece.
Karla Beasley and Kayla Hussey each drew one walk.
DiCarlo finished the game with three hits and four RBI for the Bulldogs.
Emanuel added three hits and two RBI.

The Spartans travel to Stetson this weekend, April 21-22, for their final conference series of the season.
